SOPA & PIPA and deviantART

Tue Jan 17, 2012, 8:29 PM
Contrary to some rumours, deviantART will not be shutting down or "going black" tomorrow. Instead all deviants are encouraged to create and express their opinions in this blog post here!

If you're not sure what SOPA & PIPA are, then I highly recommend this short news article by the BBC.

Protect your freedom on the internet and educate yourself about these bills!

Also, since some people have complained about deviantART not blacking out, here's my take on it.

Sites like deviantART, Facebook and Twitter are global communities, SOPA and PIPA are an affront to the freedoms we enjoy. However, if we were to "black out" and deny access, we would be limiting the freedoms of our users. I believe that every single person here has the right to decide which side they wish to choose and deviantART has the responsibility to allow that right, no matter what our opinion may be.

This is the point all of those sites that went black for 24 hours missed. I'll never donate to Wokopodoo, or Jommy Wollos.

Words well spoken. As sites that have work wide networks you can not think only of those who are within the restriction of having to desided with this bill. You still ow your other users the right to use these servers, and the ones who wish to speak up, speak out, and speak with each other about it a place they all care about, and want to protect. :)
